Montmartre, Paris I

It was much colder than normal here in San Diego yesterday.  And very windy.  As I looked out the window of my studio, I saw palm trees swaying, and I heard the gusts roaring throughout the day.

The weather does affect my mood, which is more or less likely to affect how I approach my painting subject.  For example, I may paint a snowy scene in the summer if I have to, but it is hard to get in the wintry mood when I feel like going to the beach.  When a heat wave lasts longer than I can stand, I get irritable, and that's not a good time to tackle a large, detailed painting.

On a chilly day yesterday, I found myself in the mood to paint an alley on the hills of Montmartre in Paris.  When I was painting, I was so absorbed I even felt as if Charles Aznavour was singing "La Bohème" by my side...
