Downtown (SD100-58)
In San Diego, we usually start noticing blue-purple flowers of the jacaranda trees in late April. During the months of May and June, the flowers burst into full bloom, increasing color intensity and decorating city streets and communities across San Diego.
These marvelous flowering trees stud many streets in downtown. From a distance, they look like purple smoke billowing at the foot of high-rises. It is quite a show that pleases everyone's eyes before the summer arrives.
We are thankful that the famed horticulturist Kate Sessions (1857-1940) popularized the jacaranda in San Diego.
