San Diego River (SD100-63)

The 52-mile long San Diego River flows into the Pacific Ocean, just south of Mission Bay.  It starts traveling somewhere near a mountain town of Julian.  The location in this painting is where it ends its journey.

The area near the river mouth is a salt marsh habitat for many creatures.  It is fun watching them, especially different kinds of birds: gulls, terns, ducks, herons, egrets, pelicans, and occasionally ospreys.

The western end of Interstate Highway 8 runs parallel to the south side of the river.  Seen from an overpass at dusk, the highway traffic is busy with commuters' cars.  An endless line of lights from the cars looks as if there was another river.
