Springtime is just around the corner.  What does this season represent to you?  As someone who grew up in Japan where a new fiscal and school year starts on April 1, I equate it to a new beginning when I can set new goals and discover new hopes.  For people in Japan, spring is definitely a time to look forward to a bright future ahead.  Being hopeful for a better future has never been so treasured than this year when people all over the world are suffering from an unprecedented crisis situation.

A sign of opening of cherry blossoms (sakura in Japanese) is always big news all over Japan around this time of the year.  Literally everyone looks forward to walking under flowering cherry trees to appreciate the arrival of spring.  Why do they love sakura so much?  A Japanese professor explained very well in her article by saying people crave for outdoor activities in warmer weather.  She also said, "there is something about the short life of the cherry blossoms that appeals to their mentality.  The peak of sakura flowers last a very short time, and then they go away.  It reminds us of the need to shine and disappear quietly.  It is the fragility that seems to have special appeal."  Read the whole article here.
