I visited Strasbourg many years ago as a student backpacker.  After that very brief visit, a chance to see again this magnificent capital of the Alsace region of France kept eluding me until last year.  Thanks to the beginning of the TGV-Est service from Paris, a road to Strasbourg never seemed so far away any more and I took advantage of it.

When I got off the sleek TGV at the new Strasbourg station on a rainy day, I was brought back to the day when I arrived here for the first time (it was rainy that day as well).... Feeling the weight of my backpack, I stumbled as I was getting off my train.  I said something like Attention!  I thought I was loud enough when I warned the gentleman just in front of me, but he didn't react so I pushed him.  Soon I realized Jean, a local resident of the city, had no hearing.  After learning that I only had three hours to spend (we somehow communicated), he kindly offered to guide me around his hometown so no time would be wasted.

In this painting is a corner café near the Kuss Bridge on a street that runs directly from the station.  At the end of a day, the rain clouds were gone and the last rays of sun created a beautiful mood around here.
